DAVID HARTSEK RECEIVES A MAJOR,
NATIONAL USTA AWARD
DAVID HARTSEK, USPTA-Kentucky, has been named
to receive the Eve F. Kraft Community Service Award
by the USTA. This award is given annually to individuals
who try to bring the game of tennis to anyone who would
like to play. David received this award at the USTA
National Community Tennis Development Workshop
in February in Atlanta. David (shown above receiving his 2006 USPTA-Kentucky Pro of the Year award) is chairperson
of the USTA-Kentucky Wheelchair Committee and directed
several workshops this past summer including a USPTA Tennis Across
America clinic in Lexington. He travels hundreds of miles at his own
expense to give lessons, at no charge, to wheelchair-bound students.
Eve Kraft worked tirelessly to bring the game of tennis to thousands
of young people, especially in disadvantaged communities, and was a
pioneer as a tennis teacher, coach, author, USTA staff member and
volunteer until her death in 1999. Each year the USTA presents this
award to those who share her mission and ambitions.
