USPTA-Kentucky Workshop News October 25 and 26, 2008
PARTICIPANTS in COACH'S WORKSHOP Action and energy by these pros and coaches made the
coaches workshop highly successful. USPTA-Kentucky
wants to THANK these folks for making the 2008 Coaches Workshop a highly positive experience.

USPTA-Kentucky, presented "Serves and Free Throws--
the Similarities".
Bill Phillips, 2nd vice president of USPTA-Southern Division,
Jason Miller, USPTA-Kentucky Vice-President and USTA Southern Section Tennis Service Representative for Kentucky.
Joanne Moore Wallen, USPTA-Kentucky vice president
presented "Quick Start--a Coach's Primer".
Curly Davis, USPTA pro and soon-to-be inducted member of the Kentucky Tennis Hall of Fame, presented "Preparing for Competition".
KEN DeHART, USPTA and PTR Master Pro, provided seven hours of the finest instruction ever heard in Kentucky. The Saturday specialty course was four hours of dazzling drills
and concepts including playing "Pretty/Ugly" tennis.
Sunday's pesentations included identifying and conquering "Monsters" in our minds plus several terrific drills.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------ CONGRATULATIONS! CURLY DAVIS earns Kentucky Tennis Hall
of Fame honors!!! CURLY DAVIS, veteran USPTA pro, has been elected to the Kentucky Tennis Hall of Fame and will be inducted at the annual meeting in January, 2009. Owner/Director of the TOP GUN Junior Academy, Curly is a former president of KTA, three-time winner of Kentucky Pro-of-the-Year, and was in Florida the last decade working at the Saddlebrook facility and Naples. He is a USTA High Performance coach.
------------------------------------------------------------------------ USPTA-SOUTHERN DIVISION 2008 AWARDS Female Player of the Year--35 and Over JAN DEENER: While 5 months pregnant, Jan led
her USTA 5.0 team to a USTA NATIONAL
CHAMPIONSHIP. Her baby, Max Cawood Deener,
was born on 12-21-07. Jan is past-president of
USPTA-Kentucky and former manager of the
Lexington Tennis Club. She and husband Drew live in Frankfort. Male Player of the Year--55 and Over GREG STEPHENSON: A long-time and highly-respected teaching pro and coach, Greg was again highly ranked in USTA National rankings. He hs been of the finest players in Kentucky tennis for many years. This summer Greg is teaching at the Louisville Boat Club.
